Climbing Mt Kinabalu

All climbers must register at the Kinabalu Park Headquarters and be accompanied by a mountain guide. A minimal entrance fee is imposed on all climbers.

Climbing from Timpohon Gate (the starting point) begins at 8.00 am daily.

An average climber would take about 5 hours to reach Laban Rata.

The climb to the summit begins at 2.30 am the next morning in time to witness the spectacular sunrise (if weather permits)

The exertion of carrying a heavy pack is compound by the altitude, so it is always best to minimize your pack load. (See: Essential Items to Bring)

During inclement weather, Sabah Parks reserve the right to restrict climbers from making attempts to the summit.

Climb Responsibly:

Help protect Mount Kinabalu's natural surroundings. Behave responsibly.

Take your litter home with you to help keep the mountain free from pollution.

Conserve water. Use it wisely.

Alcohol consumption is highly discouraged prior to and during the climbing.

As the saying goes: "Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints"
