The Trip » Manukan Island

Armed with a set of aching limbs from the torturous climb the days before, we headed for some sun, sand and sea at Manukan Island.

Manukan is one of five islands classified under the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park. The island is 1.5km long, and is blessed with crystal clear waters and a long stretch of white sandy beach. It's perfect for beach activities, although I spent the entire two days there hibernating in bed and recuperating from the exhaustion.

1.) Manukan Island is situated some 20 minutes off Kota Kinabalu by boat. See the outlines of Mt Kinabalu far behind? It felt weird to think that just yesterday - we were shivering in the bitter cold of its rocky terrains, and now we're soaking in the hot sun on a boat.

5.) The waters in Manukan Island are crystal clear, and schools of fish swim around the jetty. Dried bread is available for sale for eager tourists to feed the fish.

9.) The chalet where we stayed in, and where I cooped up 20 hours a day after falling sick from over-exhaustion of the Mt Kinabalu climb. Yeah, I'm a pussy.

13.) As usual, Sabah gets the best sunsets. This evening, we were treated to a wonderful hue of blue, purple and red clouds.
